FAQ About Doggie Dooley systems

How does the Doggie Dooley system work?

All Doogie Dooleys require in-ground installation. The Doggie Dooley Model 3000 works like a miniature septic tank, using natural bacteria and enzyme cultures to reduce dog waste to a harmless liquid. Simply scoop your dog’s waste into the bucket in the ground and add water regularly and digester powder weekly. The odour-free liquid simply drains away into the ground. Models 3500, 3800 and 3800X use a leachbed system, still using the digester powder to break down dog waste into a harmless liquid which simply drains away through the open bottom of the unit.

What is the digester powder made of?

The digester powder is non-toxic, harmless mixture of natural bacteria and enzyme cultures designed especially for pet waste.

Is any assembly required?

Models 3000 and 3800X come fully assembled. Models 3500 and 3800 require some simple assembly.

How is the Doggy Dooley installed in the ground?

For septic tank style systems (Model 3000) you will need to dig a round hole deeper than the unit itself to allow space underneath for the liquid to drain away. For leachbed systems (Models 3500 and 3800) the hole needs to be square and less deep, and some infill is needed around the side after the unit is in the ground. Model 3800X requires an additional round hole underneath the square hole for the unit. Full installation details are included with the product.

Does the Dooley work in all soil types?

The Doggie Dooley works well in all soil types except hard, non-draining clay.

Which model will I need?

Model 3000 is a septic tank (bucket style) system. It has a closed base. The water and waste break down in the bucket and flow down into the gound through overflow tubes when the level comes about half way up the unit. Model 3000 is suitable for two large or up to four small dogs. This model come fully assembled and is the most efficient but they require deeper holes for installation than the leachbed models.

Models 3500, 3800 and 3800X are leachbed systems (open base) which are suitable for up to 2 and up to 4 dogs respectively. These have open bases. The waste and water drain away through the open base of the unit and water does not remain in the unit. Some assembly is required. To install these models the hole in the ground needs to be wider but less deep, with some infilling after installation due to the pyramid shape of the unit. These are the most popular models due to the easier installation.
